Installing Netbeans on Ubuntu 11.10 isn’t the usual way of installing things on Ubuntu, at the time of writing searching the ubuntu software center it would result nothing.

So, to install Netbeans 7 on your Ubuntu desktop you have to do it the manual way, first by downloading the JDK tar.gz from here,, then download Netbeans from here, as the time of writing it was JDK 7u1, and Netbeans 7.0.1.
